Desert EcoFest

The Natural Science Collaborative announces the First Green Earth Film Festival to be held in the Coachella Valley on April 22 and 23. Screenings of award-winning environmental films will be hosted by the Natural Science Collaborative and Desert EcoFest @ Aqua Soleil located at 14500 Palm Drive, Desert Hot Springs, and the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery and CoachellaValleyGreen.com at the Green Zone in Palm Desert.

The Film Festival opening day will be at the Earth Day 2011 Festival on Fri., Apr. 22 at 10:00 am at the Aqua Soleil Hotel and Mineral Water Spa.

The Green Earth Film Festival was developed to explore the impact that environmental issues have on our children and us, to provide solutions that work toward a healthier planet, and to honor the filmmakers who tell the stories.

“The event offers a unique opportunity to encourage natural science discovery through the production of innovative natural science films for both students and adults,” said Joanna Stark, Director of the Natural Science Collaborative.

“The power of film making is universal. It connects people of all ages and backgrounds on a personal level. The Green Earth Film Festival will raise awareness of environmental issues and conservation solutions that affect plant and animal life across our Desert Valley, as well as planet earth, in an entertaining and educational way.”

The lineup of screenings includes, CARBON NATION and BAG IT, and the Coachella Valley’s Emmy winning VOICES OF THE MONUMENT. The Palm Springs Green Scene and Desert Move On are sponsoring the Academy Award nominated and Sundance winner, GASLAND. Green Earth Film Festival will be introducing the soon to be released WOMEN IN THE DIRT and has the film, 4th REVOLUTION ENERGY AUTONOMY from Germany. Local videographer BRUCE FEAGLE will speak, show clips, and conduct a video workshop and The Green Earth Film Festival’s Reel Kids includes the short films of local students at both locations.

The First Green Earth Film Festival will be a soft opening, aimed at raising awareness and support for the Festival’s formal debut in April 2012. Screenings are free with a donation to benefit the Natural Science Collaborative and the S.C.R.A.P. Gallery. There is a suggested donation of $2 at the Desert EcoFest @Aqua Soleil.

About Green Earth Film Festival:

Joanna Stark is the creator of the new Green Earth Film Festival. She is an educator, naturalist, a curriculum and freelance writer and children’s television producer. She is currently the Director of the Natural Science Collaborative, an organization of environmental educators from federal, state and local agencies and organizations. She has 20 years teaching experience with disabled, gifted and mainstream students from elementary to college level.

Stark often referred to as “Mother Nature” because of her costumed presentations on the environment travels thousands of miles each year to speak about wildlife and conservation. Mother Nature presentations are made in schools, theaters, museums, libraries, scouting events and parks around the country. She has been featured in print and television and is now producing her own television series. Her passion for nature and children has won her several national and international education and humanitarian awards.
