Indio, CA - The Empire Polo Club is adding a new event to its annual calendar: A wine festival.
What could be more fun than polo, wine, live music, and divot stomping on a sunny Sunday afternoon? Having experienced a day of polo recently I personally would be hard-pressed to suggest an alternative! It is a lovely and classy way to spend a bit of your leisure time.
The upcoming soiree is set to unfold on Sunday, Jan. 29 and will feature a selection of wines poured from more than a dozen wineries produced in the Temecula Valley.
Indio Mayor Glenn Miller says he welcomes the festival.
“Indio, the City of Festivals, recognizes the importance and economic benefit that the Empire Polo & Wine Festival will bring to the community. The City is excited to support the development and growth of this new annual event.”
The wine tasting will be coupled with live music, a pair of polo games and a complimentary half-time champagne divot stomp sponsored by Wilson Creek Winery.
Empire Polo Club owner, Alex (Al) Haagen, III, told this newspaper that he plans to keep expanding the facilities and adding new events each year — and this is his latest addition.
Alex Haagen’s son, Alex Haagen, IV, projects the new festival will become a staple in the Coachella Valley event calendar.
“We see the Empire Polo & Wine Festival as an event that will grow into one of the countries premier wine festivals,” he noted.
“When we initially came up with the concept of a polo and wine festival, our idea was to create a unique experience for festival goers by combining hand-crafted wines and live jazz and bluegrass music with the exciting sport of polo.”
What else? You even get your own complimentary wine glass! It will serve you well during the festival and make a fine souvenir to take home.
The 1st Annual Empire Polo & Wine Festival tickets are on sale now and reasonably priced at $30 per person at the gate or $25 if purchased online, in advance. The Jan. 29 festival will run from 12 to 4:30 p.m. For details go to www.EmpirePolo.com.
