Self-Hypnotism: A Miracle Tool For Improving Yourself

A Western Yoga But With A Very American Name

self hypnotism1 300x200 Self Hypnotism: A Miracle Tool For Improving YourselfSelf-Hypnotism is an easily learned and safe method of self-coaching. With self-hypnosis you can rid yourself of allergies and compulsive over-eating. You can stop smoking without withdrawal symptoms. You can eliminate frequent headaches, the feeling of being fatigued as well as crippling fears. With self-hypnotism you can solve many of the difficulties caused by hidden influences from your subconscious mind.

With self-hypnosis you can quickly replace bad habits with good habits. You can become more motivated, focused and able to accomplish more in your daily life. You can enjoy better health, learn body-mind relaxation, achieve peace of mind and enjoy success in life. You can become more efficient on your job and lose weight almost automatically. All of these benefits are possible without expense and in a relatively short amount of time.

How and why does self-hypnotism work? You have a conscious mind that psychologists have determined seems to have only the ability to consider from seven to nine subjects at a time. (Actually, the conscious mind focuses only on one subject at a time; the seeming multiplicity of seven to nine items is apparent only because of the conscious brain’s ability to shift from one subject to another in fractions of a second).

Every human also has a subconscious mind consisting of brain and nerve circuitry made up of billions of cells constantly recording and giving instructions to and from tens of thousands of inputs and body needs. This brain and nervous system circuitry also contains the long-term memory filled with the individual beliefs and behavioral habits accumulated during your lifetime.

This is an efficient use of our resources because the conscious mind usually leaves such fundamentals as the maintenance of breathing and blood pressure to the subconscious. However, the conscious mind can be trained to formulate and send suggestions or commands that desirably changes the brain circuitry containing the beliefs and memories and habits of the subconscious. This training, these newly installed and changed memories are what we term self-hypnotism. Self-hypnotism is western yoga with an American name!

Self-Hypnotism is related to hypnotism but does not involve accepting suggestions from others. Self-Hypnotism does not open yourself to that kind of intimate contact with others. Self-hypnotism is a very special relaxed internal state in which you can actually change your memories and knowledge of yourself into desired beliefs.

It is true that self-hypnosis can be easily developed by first having a hypnotist guide you into relaxation. However, you do not have to go this route. My recommendation is that you should allow another person to hypnotize you only if you have complete confidence in their intentions towards you and experience them as mature and non-manipulative.

If you want to learn more about self-hypnosis and how it works, I recommend several books. Frieda Morris “Self-Hypnotism in 48 Hours“ guides you through an entire weekend of private learning and practice.Leslie M. LeCron’s “Self-Hypnotism: The Technique And Its Use In Daily Living” provides a compact and good source of information. Joseph J. Luciani’s books on self-coaching do not explicitly speak about self-hypnosis but outlines steps for changing your self-talk.

I sincerely hope that this column has provided you with the motivation to master this wonderful tool for self-development, for self-actualization.

Those who live in the Mojave desert are again encouraged to come to my resumed Thursday night gatherings at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center, 59700 29 Palms Highway, Joshua Tree, California, 7 to 9 pm. In the February 17 class this week and also the next February 24 class, we will concentrate on teaching self-hypnotism along with our usual half-hour of personal journaling to explore the patterns of our life.

These classes are for people who want to use all their potential and become self-actualized, for the able who want to become more able, for those who want to develop good habits, overcome bad habits and live for a very, very long and happy time. Each class concentrates on one or two tools. The suggested donation is $5 but no one will be turned away if they can not afford this. (Hint: I could use help in filming these classes so that they can become available to a larger audience on the internet).
