Palm Springs, CA – Birthday wishes were on the mind of the crowd that gathered for Desert Hot Springs Mayor Yvonne Parks 76th held at TRIO restaurant in Palm Springs’ Design District late last week. The eatery’s mid-century “vibe” offered a perfect setting for the celebration. Chilled soup and generous cold sandwiches brought welcomed relief to the group on one of the hottest days of summer.

The group was delighted to meet some of the Desert Star Weekly’s leadership staff, including new publisher, Mike Perry.

In between courses, Mayor Parks and Cathedral City Mayor Kathy DeRosa shared some of the challenges facing cities with budgets, public safety and keeping the community’s youth engaged. The pending elections stirred healthy debate, redevelopment “mop-up” and public art programs were also topics discussed.

The restaurant’s staff worked effortlessly (or so it seemed) to keep drinks iced and good times coming. The tables were decorated with stunning bromeliads that were later used at a dinner that same evening hosted by new DHS PD Chief Kate Singer and her partner, Lori. The afternoon was capped by a beautiful cake decorated to look like a woman’s hat and shortbread cookies with the newspaper’s logo.

Among the other attendees were: Kevin Parker of David Webb Beverly Hills, Northern Trust’s Michael Smith, DHS City Manager Rick Daniels, lovely fashionista Jennifer Peterson, DSW columnists Frances Allen and Sherman Fridman, and a variety of community/business leaders from the western valley. A good time was had by all and this reporter was sure one wish blowing out the candles was for another great year in Desert Hot Springs!
