Kindergarteners Tour Local College

Cielo Vista Charter School kindergarten class with Palm Desert Fire Department

PALM DESERT, CA—The kindergarten class at Cielo Vista Charter School has adopted College of the Desert (COD) to learn more about continuing their education after high school.

The visit on Oct. 26 began with a welcome by a College Administrator at the Hilb Building. The Office of Student Life took the 150 children on a tour of the campus. Stops included the nursery in Agriculture; Diesel Mechanics where an exhibit of an air bag and vehicles; and the Public Safety Academy (PSA) where the children were able to interact with representatives from CAL FIRE, Palm Desert’s Citizens on Patrol, a California Highway Patrol Unit and a PSA Module II student. Presentations at each location visit lasted about 15 minutes with a ‘hands-on’ approach. They finished the tour at the Public Safety Academy where the children ate their own sack lunch.

Cielo Vista Kindergarten class at COD

Each year every kindergarten class at Cielo Vista Charter adopts a college or university to learn about throughout the year. All students learn about their chosen school and other institutes of higher learning, and are encouraged to continue their education after high school as part of Cielo Vista’s No Excuses University Program.

The Cielo Vista community strives to create an environment that enhances the social, emotional, and intellectual growth of our students. A sense of unity between school, family, and community exists to enable our students to reach their potential as responsible, informed citizens.
