Thanksgiving Day, Chamber of Commerce and Valley Events

Desert Hot Springs

God’s Kitchen will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner for those in need from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. God’s Kitchen has been serving Thanksgiving Dinner for 15 years to those not only in need of food, but hugs, love and if needed prayer. God’s Kitchen will be holding the dinner at Desert Christian Center located at 66511 8th St. in DHS. Please come help serve, cook or eat.

 

Palm Springs

Well in the Desert will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 588 Rosa Parks Blvd. The event is free to the public and encourages people home alone, those in need and the homeless to attend. Volunteers need to fill out volunteer forms and sign up to volunteer for the day. Please call 760-327-8577.

 

Cathedral City

The Salvation Army will be serving Thanksgiving Dinner at noon at the Dick and Beverly Davis Corps Community Center located at 30-400 Landau Blvd. Volunteers are asked to fill-out an application before Thanksgiving Day at the center.

 

Palm Desert

Martha’s Village and Kitchen will be holding its 6th Annual Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk. Nov. 22 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., register for the race that begins at 8 a.m. The Run/Walk will start at the New Balance store on El Paseo.

 

Indio

Coachella Valley Rescue Mission will be serving Thanksgiving meals on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from 6 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 22 Thanksgiving Dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. CVRM will serve more than 2,500 Thanksgiving dinners and send hundreds of food boxes to families in need. CVRM is located at 47470 Van Buren St.

 

Area Chambers of Commerce Events

 

Palm Springs

The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce and Kaiser Grille will be hosting the weekly Lead$ Lunch on Nov. 20 at noon. Members and soon to be members are welcome to attend the 60 minutes of power networking. Bring plenty of cards and mix and mingle with local businesses. Kaiser Grille is located at 205 S. Palm Canyon Dr.

 

Indian Wells

Peace Officer and Public Safety Awards Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Hyatt Regency located at 44-600 Indian Wells Lane. The event is to honor all of the Valley’s “Everyday Heroes,” and is hosted by the city of Palm Desert. There will be more than 50 awardees and 500 attendees. Painted Hills Middle School will take part in what Guinness World Records terms the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event,” on Nov. 15 from 2 to 3 pm at Painted Hills Middle School located at 9250 Sonora Dr. The event will also feature a variety of fitness activities with sights set on 450,000 sport stackers. Local stackers will be taking aim at Guinness World Record in sport stacking.

 

Desert Hot Springs

The Elks Lodge is hosting its 4th Annual Monte Carlo Casino Night on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Elks Lodge located at 64680 Pierson Blvd. Proceeds from the event go to fund youth activities north of the I-10 freeway. For more information, call 760-671-4521 or 760-329-6444.

 

Palm Desert

“A Miracle on El Paseo,” the grand illumination of the 60 foot El Paseo Christmas Tree by Ice Skating Champion Dorothy Hamill. Professional ice skaters will take to the ice to the Sounds of Citrus College’s 22-piece band “Nightshift” along with tastes and spirits from the Valley’s top restaurants and wineries. Wine Women celebrating “Go Red for Women” will be hosting an evening of food, wine and fine art. The event will be presenting fine art by Gideon Cohn of I•M•A•G•E•S• by Gideon. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of art will be donated to “Go Red for Women.” The cost is $75 for members of Wine Women of PS or $85 for non-members.

 

Palm Desert

Suicide Prevention Healing Conference to take place at CSUSB on Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in recognition of the 14th Annual International Survivors of Suicide Day. The event will be held at the Oliphant Auditorium at CSUSB Palm Desert located at 37-500 Cook St. in Palm Desert.

 

La Quinta

La Quinta Resort and Club will welcome the arrival of its 48-foot tree on Nov. 17 from 12 to 2 p.m. There will be historical tours of the resort at 11 a.m. and noon. Refreshments will be Zu Zu Cookies from “It’s A Wonderful Life,” plus hot chocolate and cider. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Indio

FIND Food Bank will host a fundraising event on Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at StorAmerica Self Storage located at 43421 Monroe St. Drop off your old electronics, working or not, and help support FIND Food Bank, which helps feed more than 80,000 people per month. There will be free hot dogs, hamburgers and cold drinks.

 

Indio

Fantasy Springs Resort will be hosting the Fantasy Cupcake Challenge, a decadent baking challenge of sorts with all of the proceeds going to “Well in the Desert,” a non-profit organization that provides meals to those in need.
