DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA – The Desert Hot Springs Youth Violence and Gang Intervention Ad-Hoc Committee held their monthly meeting on Monday, Nov. 5 at the Carl May Community Center located at 11711 West Drive. The speakers at the meeting were representatives from the YMCA, the Parent Project and the Indio Youth Task Force. The group discussed the various programs offered for our at-risk youth. The focus of the Ad Hoc Committee is to work together on gang intervention best practices and to collaborate on intervention/prevention outreach programs, working in partnership with local nonprofit agencies, ministerial groups and county agencies that will provide services and resources to the city’s gang population, said DHS Police Commander Ken Peary. The Ad Hoc Committee will report its findings and recommendations to the City Council in Spring 2013. The public is strongly encouraged to attend future meetings.
