Drum Circles Continue Past End of Mayan Calendar

2011 Drum Circle at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center

JOSHUA TREE, CA - “On the assumption that our world is not ending on the 21st, our last community drum circle of this year will be on Thursday, Dec. 27 from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Center’s Friendship Hall. We can celebrate still being here on Earth, alive, and ready to move into the New Year, and what a wonderful way to prepare for the coming New Year celebration together. December’s drum circle finishes off the last circle of 2012. “We’ve usually had our December circles on the day of the Winter Solstice, but this year the JT Retreat Center has no space for a circle; they are fully booked, and I have a commitment to facilitate a drum circle for “The Journey,” one of the groups that will be at the center.,” said Sam Sloneker, drum circle facilitator.

“Their program, which runs from Dec.. 19 – 22 may have a few spots still available, so you may want to check out the possibility of being a part of their program,” Sloneker said. Call the Retreat Center at 760-365-8371 for details and to see if space is still available at www.journeycreatively.com.”

PALM SPRINGS, CA – From Greg Varra of Michael’s House: Dear Meditation Friends: As we quickly approach the end of the year, we would like to acknowledge that the holidays often take people away to spend time with their loved ones. Therefore, we will not meet on Tuesday Dec. 25.

“We are excited to announce the following Tuesday, Jan. 1 marks our one year anniversary that “Meditation In Recovery” has been meeting. This has been an eventful year with many guest teachers sharing a variety of contemplative practices. We would like to commemorate this time spent together in appreciation for each and every one of you with a special event in celebration.

“Larry Yang is our special guest teacher for this evening, so mark your calendars for January 1. Yang will also perform a blessing cord ceremony at this time. We will be offering food and cheer, so come early at 6 pm.

“Please RSVP for this event by Dec. 18 at greg.varra@frnmail.com or call 760-408-6629. As always, we look forward to your loving presence for this event and always. Yang teaches meditation retreats nationally and has a special interest in creating access to the Dharma for diverse multicultural communities. Larry has practiced extensively in Burma and Thailand, with a six month period of ordination as a Buddhist monk under the guidance of meditation master Ajahn Tong. Larry is one of the core teachers and leaders of the East Bay Meditation Center and is on the Spirit Rock Teachers Council. He is one of the coordinating teachers of the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader training program. Namaste, Greg Varra
