DESERT HOT SPRINGS – The Mission Springs Water District Board of Directors unanimously elected Director Russ Martin to President of the Board at the Regular meeting of Monday, Dec. 17.
Martin was appointed to the MSWD Board in May of 2010 to fill the seat vacated by the passing of long-time board member, Mary Gibson. Martin was elected to the Board about 18 months earlier in the November 2011 election. His term as president began immediately upon concurrence of the Board at the Dec. 17 meeting. His term will last one year. The incoming vice president is former Board President Nancy Wright.
Martin stated that his priorities for the year are to complete the District’s Financial Master Plan, to keep the momentum going on the critical I-10/Indian Avenue Corridor sewer project and to continue the expansion of intergovernmental relations with the City of Desert Hot Springs as well as other government agencies and to enhance relationships with industry groups such as the Desert Valley Builders Association. “We need to continue to integrate into the larger Coachella Valley Community.” Martin said. “These relationships are essential to our mission and regional management of our water resources.”
Martin said he is optimistic that the coming year will see more vacant homes occupied which will help further stabilize the district’s revenues as well as leading the district into its 60th year of serving the greater Desert Hot Springs region.
Martin has served on the Desert Hot Springs Public Safety Commission since 2007 and is the Chairman of the Desert Hot Springs Redevelopment Agency Oversight Board. A retired police officer, Russ and his wife Florence have lived in Desert Hot Springs since 2007.
